Yesterday by accident, I happened to stumble upon a couple of sprites of "newer-generation" Pokemon, pixeled in the style of the old Red/Blue games, which were AWESOME. (And also a couple of sprite recolors that claimed to do the same thing but were just flat-colored...sprite recolors. LAME.) So I thought, "why not," and tried a couple of my own. xD I started with Empoleon, and then decided, "Heck, I'll just do all the starters."

So here they are! I kind of cheated in regards to the colors, which aren't actual 8-bit colors, although I of course stayed true to the style of using a limited color palette. And then I realized Torterra's tree was on the wrong side, because I was using a flipped image as a reference. D'oh! But I didn't feel like flipping him. Other than that, I'm really pleased with how these came out.

I hate the people who recolor sprites and call them Devamps. Stuff like these are what I really want to see.

What do you think about Re-Vamps, though. As far as I know, there is no way to truly revamp a sprite, since all the characters form the 1st gen up are all in later gens, too.

Thank you! My process is pretty basic; I just grab the colors from the official sprites and dive right into drawing them, looking at the official ones closely to match the shading/anti-aliasing styles (I don't sketch these out first when I do R/B style sprites, I find it helps to get that distorted look the early Pokemon had, haha)
